Where do I find sport specific information?
Do I need to be a member of a sport club to play Nationals?
No not at all, any student is both welcome and encouraged to participate. It is however a good idea to join the club for the sport you are interested in. GUGC Sport clubs handle a lot of the enquiries, coordinate trials, uniforms and more. Find out more or contact a club here via gugcstudentguild.com.au/sport/clubs/
Do I have to attend trials?
If trials are held for the sport you are interested in then yes, you need to attend. If you have a valid reason not to attend, contact the relevant club or our Sports Officer.
Do I have to be a student?
Yes, only currently enrolled Griffith University students can compete. You can not be a deferred student. You must be currently enrolled at the time of the event.
I am enrolled at both the Gold Coast and another Brisbane based campus - which campus can I represent?
For Nationals we do compete as Griffith as a whole, but when it comes to registering and payment it is separated by campuses. You are eligible to register for the campus for which the majority of your courses are enrolled. For example, if you are enrolled in 3 Gold Coast courses and 1 Brisbane based course then you are eligible to join a Griffith Gold Coast team and vice versa.
I am a Brisbane student. Who do I contact?
Griffith Sport handles everything Nationals for Brisbane campus students. Contact Griffith Sport at email@example.com
Can I register now and pay later?
Payment is required by the due dates. You can register interest without payment.
What happens if I register late?
AUS will no longer accept late registration. Don't pay, can't play! So please adhere to the deadlines set.
Can I play more than one sport?
Yes you can in some instances, as long as you're approved by the Sports Officer in advance. An additional cross registration fee applies. This extra fee is charged by Australian University Sport and will apply at the time of submitting your AUS registration.
Why do I have to pay Australian University Sport and Griffith?
Australian University Sport (AUS) charge a registration fee to attend their event. This must be paid to AUS directly via their website. As you are representing Griffith, we help you with uniform, travel and other arrangements which incur separate costs. GUGC Sport subsidises each athlete and approved non-competing officials to offset these additional costs.
I'm not a student, can I still get involved?
Yes! We are always in need of team coaches, managers and other support staff to assist the GUGC Sport teams. If you'd like to be considered for one of these roles, please fill out the Organizer/Coach/Manager Application From
Do I have to purchase the entire uniform kit outlined for my sport?
Yes, it is a requirement to wear the full representative playing uniform. Generally this cost is built into GU registration.
What is the good behaviour bond?
By registering for this event you are accepting the terms and conditions outlined in the GUGC Sport Athletes agreement
. You are representing Griffith University for the entirety of the tour, on and off the field, and you must behave accordingly. To ensure you abide by and are aware of the importance of your requirements as a Griffith Gold Coast athlete and student, we charge a good behaviour bond. The bond is refunded post Games provided you have not breached the agreement. If damages (to accommodation, sport venues or other) result due to poor behaviour and charges in excess of the $100 good behaviour bond fee are incurred, you are liable to pay the additional costs.
When will I get my good behaviour bond back?
Good behaviour bonds do take time to process and we appreciate your patience. Provided the Sports Officer has authorised a full refund, you should receive the funds in your account within 10-15 working days, from the final day of competition. For students who have incurred some charges, this may take longer. If you are anticipating a full refund and have not received your good behaviour bond reimbursement by Friday 28 October 2016 please contact the Sports Officer.
