One of the biggest events on the Guild social calendar is just around the corner. The 21st Annual Student Guild Race Day will be held on Saturday 10 August at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

This year the Guild will be donating $2 from every ticket sold to the Standardbred Association Queensland (SAQ) to support the healthy and humane retirement of harness racehorses in Queensland. SAQ has been retraining and rehoming retired racehorses since 2002, and they have rehomed over 1,150 horses in that time.

The SAQ cares for horses through their Rehoming and Adoption Program. The not-for-profit uses funds to provide veterinary care, farriers, feed and any necessary training required to get the horses under saddle and ready for their new home.

The Rehoming Program complements a range of activities and programs run by the association that ultimately promote Standardbred horses as a breed that is suitable for pleasure and performance riding. SAQ works hard to create awareness and demand for this breed to maximise the number of good homes available to these horses once they have retired from traditional harness racing.

Starting at 11.30 am, the Guild Race Day package includes a buffet lunch, a five hour beverage package, entertainment, fashions on the field, and free buses to the official after party at White Rhino Bar and Eats.

Tickets are on sale now and are available online or at the Student Guild Office (The Link, G07). This event is strictly 18+ and proof of age is required. Further information is available here.
