The Henley Connection

The Student Guild has partnered with the Henley Lifestyle Resort to connect socially isolated residents with student volunteers to combat social isolation in vulnerable communities. Finding a worthwhile venture to occupy yourself during this time can be a challenge, but volunteering is the perfect way to find a sense of purpose and take a proactive approach to your wellbeing, as you take care of yourself and others. When asked about her experience, volunteer George Carter explained that “it turned out that volunteers had a lot in common with the residents and the time went so quickly. I felt happy and full of energy for hours after our talk”.

How does it work?

Student volunteers pair up with a buddy from the  Henley Lifestyle Resort for a weekly zoom hangout. The aim is that students and residents develop a long lasting and meaningful friendship. “It was so interesting to hear all about my resident’s family, travels, and interests. She had a great sense of humour. It turned out that we had a lot in common and the time went so quickly.”
