GUGC Dominates Rival Night

With all the fun and excitement of Northern Unigames just around the corner, Bond and Griffith University came together on Thursday 25 May for their annual friendly event; Rival Night. The night saw student athletes compete in a range of sports including: basketball, netball, water polo, beach volleyball and touch football. Over the course of the night, wins across each sport were tallied up as points, to determine the Rival Night winner.

This year marked Rival Night’s 12th year running and Griffith University Gold Coast (GUGC) were once again crowned the overall Rival Night champions, undefeated since 2004 and with only one draw on record for the inaugural event in 2003. Although GUGC continues to have a run of dominance, Bond displayed a strong showing in both men’s basketball and mixed touch.

Sports officer Christina Hickman had this to say of the night.

GUGC have maintained a better winning record than the recent Maroons Origin team over local rivals, Bond University, but GUGC can’t get complacent. Next year the scoreline might read a bit closer with some solid wins from the Bullsharks. But for this year the trophy remains in the hands of GUGC.
