Are you a keen surfer? Did you know that you can represent Griffith University Gold Coast at the Australian University Surfing Championships?

Gold Coast based Digital Media student, Dru Adler is currently working with GUGC Sport to form a strong team to represent the Gold Coast campus at the Surfing Championships in July this year. The event will be held in conjunction with the Northern Unigames on the Sunshine Coast from the 3-7 July 2016. Athletes can compete in the stand-up, longboard or bodyboarding divisions.

Based on expressions of interest for the Unigames event, Dru is also interested in re-establishing a Gold Coast campus boardriders club. Dru has a strong surfing background and is keen to share his experience and to support other students.

Dru has been a professional surfer for over 15 years, winning the very first Quiksilver Airshow in 2000 to begin a solid surfing career as an aerial specialist. A long time member of the Palm Beach Boardriders Club, one of Dru’s passions is helping people improve their surfing through video analysis coaching.

“I’m doing whatever I can to push surfing. I’m stoked that it’s going to be part of the Games”, says Dru. “It’s just fun to go and compete with friends. It also pushes your surfing, you’re all trying to surf better than each other and it just pushes you.”

GUGC Sport is still seeking students to represent Griffith at the Australian University Surfing Championships. If you are interested in registering or if you would like to express your interest in a Gold Coast campus boardriding club please contact Sports Officer, Christina Hickman at c.hickman@griffith.edu.au
