This year the Student Guild is doubling your chance to connect and get involved with the R U OK? day campaign. On Thursday 13 September we will be joining the national day of action with on campus activities and on Friday 14 September we will be backing this up with a social touch football tournament to help you Keep in Touch.

R U OK? is a national conversation movement with the goal of preventing suicide through conversation, connection and by checking in with friends and family to ask ‘Are you okay?’. R U OK? provides Australians with resources to take action and equips them to ask, to listen, to encourage action and to check-in with friends and family who might be struggling or experiencing difficulties in silence.

The annual event is held around Australia to raise the organisation’s profile and to encourage individuals to feel confident to ask, and share, in order to build a supportive and connected community.

Everyone can experience ups and downs, and being a student can be a particularly stressful time. This is why the Student Guild is committed to spreading the message of support and connection on campus.

R U OK? on the Gold Coast campus will feature interactive pop-up tents, games, support resources, live music and cupcakes. Killer Koala will be on campus once again, in the unmissable yellow ‘R U OK?’ t-shirt, offering free hugs to anyone who wants a koala cuddle.

The Wellness Warriors will also be on hand to chat and find out ‘What does R U OK?’ mean to you. Keep an eye out for all the action on the Library Lawn from 9.30 am – 2.30 pm.

Since R U OK? day is all about connection, and exercise is good for the soul, we will be continuing to help students feel connected on campus with our Keep in Touch tournament on Friday 14 September. Come along for a friendly game of social touch on the oval.

Bring your friends but keep in mind that this is all about networking so teams will be randomised to help you meet new people in a low pressure environment (no need to worry about lots of small talk). Players of all levels are welcome and you will be briefed on the day.

The event will run from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm and is free to register. Each game will run for approximately 30 minutes. Teams have the choice of staying the whole day or dropping in to play a game around classes.

The aim of the day is to meet new people, have fun and de-stress. We will have a BBQ running as well as prizes and a Conversation Corner available for those who want to chat and connect of the field.

If you are interested, please register here by 3.00 pm Thursday 13 September.
